Italian Antique Pottery- Two examples from the Tuscan Countryside

Italian Antique Pottery

Italian antique pottery is often understated, but very beautiful. Especially the kind you find in the Tuscan countryside. Simply decorated and rustic, it’s sophisticated in an unexpected way. Take for example these two pieces of Italian Antique pottery.

Examples of Italian antique pottery from Tuscany

The first example is this Tuscan antique pot from the late 19th century/early 20th Century. The dimensions are 12.25”H and 11.5”W.

Rustic Italian antique pot

The color is the natural terracotta from which it is made. This antique pot is decorated with a very simple hand-painted pale yellow garland like motif.  This pottery has a nice rustic look with some charred markings and imperfections. The overall aesthetic of this antique pot is very appealing and decorative. It’s a nice example of authentic Tuscan pottery.

The second example of Italian antique pottery is this Tuscan pot. The dimensions are 12.5”H and12”W.

Tuscan antique pot with a botanical motif

This pot is also from the late 19th century/early 20th century. The lower half of the antique pot is natural terracotta and the upper half is glazed and painted with a simple botanical motif. The maker’s finger tip indention detail under the base of the single handle is an endearing handmade detail.
