An ex voto is a votive offering displayed in a church or shrine. You’ll often see them displayed in Catholic churches throughout Italy. An ex voto represents a prayer for healing or gratitude for having been healed. Ex votos come in various forms, often body parts, which would represent what kind of ailment the prayers and miracles were for.
