18th century Tuscan dark lacquered cabinet with faux wood panel. The cabinet is dark brown with two paneled doors which have been highlighted with a lighter wood color and design. Below the upper doors is a full width narrow drawer. Everything is original, including the lock and hinges. The interior has handmade wooden hooks and a shelf for storage.
This Italian antique cabinet originally came from a convent in the Casentino, a valley that lies north of Arezzo and east of Florence. Dating back to the middle ages this area provided a haven for many spiritual sanctuaries, most of which have disappeared . Today, two still stand, La Verna is probable the best known, being founded by St Francis in the early 13th century.
