Using Rustic Italian Kitchen & Tableware in Your Home

Authentic Rustic Italian kitchen decor and tableware is not easy to find. We had these wonderful rustic canisters and serving bowls made for us and now make them available to you as part of MERCATO’s tableware collection online. From past to present, we show you our modern versions to use around your home to create an authentic Tuscan look. 

The serving bowls and utensil canisters are handmade in Puglia, Italy and are based on the authentic shapes and colors that have been used for generations from that region.

Large White Bowl

These serving bowls are wonderful and are well suited for salads and side dishes.  The inside and rims are glazed in a creamy white or rich ochre color.  The outsides are left unglazed with a natural terracotta finish. Each bowl has a slightly different personality with its glaze drips and markings. This lends to that Italian rustic look. 

White Canister

The canisters are very useful. In a rustic Italian kitchen today you might see them used as a utensil holder for wooden spoons. It’s also fun to use them for serving breadsticks and since they are glazed on the inside and can hold water, we’ve even used them as a flower vase.  Canisters like these years ago in an Italian kitchen were actually used for preserving vegetables.

As you can see, the color and shape is still how they are produced today, for modern day life in a rustic kitchen.
