(SOLD) This antique "madia" cabinet, with its original hardware, is from the 18th century.  It's a unique cabinet for an entry or could be used as a small sideboard.

A "madia" cabinet would have originally been used in a Tuscan kitchen for making bread or pasta. This decorative, yet practical piece, was a central part of the Italian lifestyle, which included delicious homemade food. The top of the cabinet lifts open and is where dough was kneaded for bread or pasta.  The doors underneath open for storage.

In the gallery photos, please note that there is a lighter area on the top left front and side of the cabinet.  On the right side of the cabinet there is a small hole in the wood.  Of course with rustic antiques, these are considered highly desirable imperfections!
